So, I’ve been thinking that if we end up moving, I’d like to get rid of the traditional phone services and have been looking at different VOIP services Reviews to see what service is the best to have. There are a lot of great services out there, so it’d be easy to get one that doesn’t do what you need it to do, or has more than you need, really. I don’t know much about VOIP, since we’ve always had traditional phone services. In fact, we’ve only had high speed Internet for a little over 2 years and it’s not really good for VOIP, since it’s DSL.
From what I’ve seen, VOIP performs the best on cable and for that matter, it seems pointless to have it with DSL, since DSL requires a phone to begin with. I know VOIP tends to be a lot cheaper, but when you need to have phone services to have the Internet, it’s like playing twice for the same services. I figure that if we have to move at the end of the month, I’ll be stiffed with two different contracts (phone and satellite) to pay off and it might end up being cheaper for us to get cable. If we get cable, we can get VOIP for our phone service.

The most important thing to remember is that VoIP is only as good as your internet connection. If you have any packet loss or jitter you will notice it in your phone calls. Also a router that does QOS may be a good investment if your stuck with a lower bandwidth connection IE 2MB down and 768k up.
