So Monday, I wiped the computer and reformatted it, hoping that would fix the problem that I was having with distortion. No dice, so I tried to stay off it as much as possible since it was worse than ever and hard to see web pages even. That meant it was SPRING CLEANING DAY! Yeah, I’m only a season late.
We started out by pulling out empty boxes from the other bedroom that is used as a storage room. That helped a LOT to get the room cleaned out enough to move around in there. We broke down and got rid of a bunch of them, keeping just a few to put stuff in while we sorted other boxes. In the end, we had a ton of stuff out for recycling, a whole trunk load of garbage off to the dump and a back seat full of stuff off to Salvation Army.
When Rob came home, he had a monitor cable that we borrowed from a friend who runs a computer shop. I switched out the cables and it was still distorted, so we knew for sure the monitor was gone. I’m still pretty pissed off by that fact since it’s only 2 months old. If anyone ever buys a refurbished computer/monitor from Dell, make sure to get extra coverage. If you don’t, you only get 21 days and a limited warranty after that. The limited warranty is utter crap, for the record, on a monitor.
So that pretty much covers how Wednesday went and now we can move on to Thursday. Thanks to the holiday, Rob got paid early, so we headed out fairly early and got his check, ran a couple errands around town, including hot dogs from the new hot dog stand in Sayre. Yum. Chili Cheese Dogs are so good, but so bad for me. We then headed off to Falcon Computers (friends shop) to see what kind of deal could be made. He had a 15″ LCD in the shop, but when he hooked it up to make sure it worked, it was dead. Instead, I came out with a loaner CRT until I decide what I want to do. It works, so that makes me happy. I can see things again.
As for what I’m gonna do, I’ve decided that I’m gonna buy this CRT from him and just squirrel away the money to buy a different Monitor later on. I need to figure out if there is something near/on my desk that could have caused the monitor to go so quickly. I know that the small desk fan that I have causes a bit of oddness with the CRT. That leads me to wonder if having Rob’s alarm clock close to the monitor is an issue. Why spend $200 on an LCD to have it go bad after 2 months because of something I’m doing. That’s a far too expensive experiment.
With that said, that covers 2 more days of the week that need to be caught up. One more post shall catch me up to today. Yay!
