I’ve been slacking again in updates. My bad. So lets play a game of catch up. First and foremost, I’ve been hugely sucked in by Sims 3. Much to my chagrin. I’ve always been vocal against the Sims and I got sucked in hardcore. I’ve also been hugely sucked in by Farm Town and other various farming game apps on Facebook. I really only use FB for those apps. It’s kind of funny, everyone else uses it for socializing, I like it for the games.

I still haven’t put together my thoughts on Harry Potter. I enjoyed the movie for the movie itself, but <lj-cut text="cut for anyone who hasn't seen it yet">I didn’t care for a lot of things that were missing or changed. I addressed this on plurk, so I’ll copy it over here…

1) Bill/Fleur – the engagement is kind of important, because of the wedding in DH being where Harry, Ron and Hermione left from. Bill/Fleur also set up the scenes of the shell cottage as well, along with the attack on Bill by Grayback during the final fight that did not happen.
2) Horcruxes – Sure, Harry knows now what they are, knows that Dumbledore destroyed 2, but he doesn’t really know enough to strike out to find the others. He doesn’t see enough of the memories to be able to figure out the 4, especially since Ginny hid the book in the ROR, when it’s key to Harry knowing where the Diadem was at – He saw it when he hid his book.
3) Burning the Burrow – Where the HELL are the Weasley’s going to live? Much better, where is the wedding going to be? It was at the Burrow!
4) Where are the Dursleys? The scene with Dumbledore telling them that Harry needed to return one more time is also a key point they missed.
5) The fight scene – I understand that you have to cut a lot to make a movie, but why not cut the fire and put in the fight? It was pretty lame, imo. You have all the Death Eaters in the castle for what? Nothing, really. There was no fight, they just stood and watched
6) Dumbledore’s non-existent funeral – Uh, are they going to make that part of the first DH movie? Cuz burying the wand is a fairly key item, since it’s one of the Hallows and all.

Those are the major points that annoyed me. I mean, I did enjoy the movie, I laughed and even cried when Dumbledore died. That scene was probably the best scene in the movie, but I was left wanting more. I read on a board something that really struck me – It seems like they were trying to turn it into a Twilight-esque film.
</lj-cut>

So, they recently opened a Sonic in Binghamton. You have no idea how damn happy that made me. Honestly, I nearly cried from happiness. Sonic is one of the things that I’ve missed the most about living in Las Vegas. I had just said a little while ago that hell would probably freeze before we got one, so I had to eat my words. And rumor has it, they’re going to be building at least one more in the same area.

I had a Dr. Appointment on the 24th. It was pretty uneventful, other than I got yelled at because my blood sugar levels are bottoming out because I forget to eat or wait too long to eat. I also got in trouble for fasting for blood work without being told to. I always fast for morning appointments. So, after that was done, we had the rest of the day. I grabbed a muffin for breakfast, then we planned to go to a Farmer’s Market. We had never been to this particular one before, so we headed out right after my appointment, under the impression that it was open early, but no, it didn’t open until 2pm and we were there at 11am. So, we had to figure out something to do to waste time. We decided to drive around a bit and see if we could manage to not get lost and see if we could find where Sonic was at. Come to find out, it was a half a block from one of the stores we shop at. That’s absolutely awesome! The lines were INSANE. But I got my Sonic and I’m very happy about that.

I found out last week that RENT is in Ithaca this month. It’s NOT the broadway cast, it’s a touring group, but it sounds like a great show. I want to go, but the ticket prices are insane. So I was looking at the theater website and found the COOLEST thing ever. They have one showing of every show that is “Pay what you can” pricing. What?? I read more, found their twitter and it really is pay what you can. I can go see RENT for almost nothing?? Seriously?? Yeah, I desperately want to do that. The show time is August 12th at 7:30. Small problem, we need to be there early to get tickets. They recommend being there by 6:30 when the ticket window opens. Rob works until 5, gets home at 5:30, changes and we fly, we’ll barely make it at 6:30 and he NEVER gets out of work on time. Ever. I’m not sure if we’ll be going, but I’m sure going to try.

This Wednesday night is another night of learning about the history of my hometown. I know, it doesn’t sound interesting, but it is. Tomorrow night is going to be more about the railroads and it really excites me. It’s supposed to rain, but we’re under a gazebo and as long as it isn’t a monsoon, it shouldn’t be cancelled. I always look forward to these nights, which seems odd since I hate history with a burning, fiery passion.

We’ve been planning on picking blueberries, but the weather is against us. We’ve decided that we’re just not gonna go this year. It’s rained pretty much every other day for the last month. It’s made the fields all muddy, so I really don’t want to go try to pick in that kind of environment. One of Rob’s regular customers went to the same place we do and said it was hellishly muddy, so I’m glad we’ve decided not to go. I’ll just go to the Farmer’s Market and pick up a couple quarts or something.

I have to go get groceries Tuesday. We made our list yesterday and most of it is from Sam’s Club. Rob has an eye appointment at 11, then we’re going to go shopping. I dread it, in a lot of ways, since it’s still summer vacation, but it shouldn’t be so bad. It shouldn’t be too bad, as long as it isn’t boiling hot outside.

I think that’s all there is for now. I’m not going to promise to update again soon. I’ll post when I remember.

The last two days have been a bit crazy, so lets play a little bit of Catch-Up. We’ll see how far we get. Monday, Rob had a dental appointment at 8:30am in a location I wasn’t quite sure of how to get to. Google Earth gave me a fairly good idea of how to get there, but we needed to make sure there was enough time to get there and not be late. So, we got up at OMGIT’SEARLY (6am) so that we could eat breakfast and I could have coffee to take. We headed out and made it with quite a bit of time to spare, which isn’t a bad thing unless your doctor is perpetually late.

Now, this appointment was for yet another part of Rob’s insane amount of dental work, so it’s not the first visit or just a follow up. Long story short is that they’re pulling all of his teeth, anywhere from 3 to 5 at a time. Because of the way his insurance is set up, it’s being done through the County Health Mobile Dental, so each appointment is at a different location. Now, the dentist is quite good, so I will not complain about him for his dental work, HOWEVER I will complain because his appointments have been at at 8 or 8:30, consistently. The problem is, however, the dentist usually shows up around oh… I’d have to venture to say 8:45 on average. I will give him credit, he’s not a slow dentist by any means, in fact, the second he walks in he gets straight to work and is done in a flash.

A little back story on the Mobile Dental Van – The purpose is to go to the different schools around the county and do low-cost or free dental work for the children and the communities. They try to do all the adults prior to 9am, then students from 9am until noon, then adults from noon until 3. From 3 until 5, they do both. It works out so that adults can be seen before work, during lunch and after work, where as children are during the morning hour before lunch or recess with the school nurse, and then after school with their parents. The flaw, however, is that, invariably, Rob is still in the chair when they bring the first batch of kids in to be seen. Not exactly a good thing when you have that many people in a small space.

So yeah, I just realized I’d already posted about Monday. Guess I was sleep-posting Monday night. Onward to Yesterday. *laugh* Yesterday had a later start, thankfully. Rob had a 1pm appointment with the Ophthalmologist to see if he was finally done with his eye problems, so we headed out a bit before noon so we could get some lunch, since I’m a twit and didn’t think ahead. His appointment went well and he is officially free of that doctor! Hopefully for good this time. We headed to the store to pick up some baking supplies, then finished the good majority of our Christmas shopping. The only thing that needs to be purchased is a Game Stop card for my oldest nephew and something for my mother, since the slippers I bought yesterday were way too big. Yes I let her try them on to see, mostly because she can’t wear overly squishy slippers and I was worried about them being too big.

After we did our shopping, we went to the library for a bit so that I could pick up the book I had requested, plus I wanted to check my accounts so I knew how much money we had left so that I didn’t overspend and break myself. After we did that, we headed off to get some dinner and waste a bit of time before we went to see Twilight. It was a lovely, leisurely day, no rushing here and there. I quite enjoyed it, until we came out of the movie theater and the car was covered with snow. It wasn’t a ton, but it was enough that it had to be brushed clean first. We made it home easily though, so it wasn’t bad.

I’d write more, but I started this post around 10 hours ago and got sidetracked, repeatedly. I’ll write about Twilight later.

So, The Express premiered in Syracuse tonight. I can only imagine the hoopla surrounding that. The only reason that this interests me is because it’s the story of Ernie Davis.
<lj-cut text="Info stolen from Wikipedia Re: Ernie Davis">
Ernie Davis (December 14, 1939 – May 18, 1963) was an American Football player who became the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Wearing number 44, Davis competed collegiately for Syracuse University before being drafted by the Washington Redskins then almost immediately traded to the Cleveland Browns in December 1961. However, the running back would never play a professional game after developing leukemia in 1962.

Born and raised near Pittsburgh, Ernie was born into the poverty of the coal-belt. His parents separated shortly before his father died in an accident. Raised in the nearby Pittsburgh industrial center of Uniontown by his grandparents, Davis moved to Elmira, New York at age 12 with his mother and new stepfather. He played in Elmira’s Small Fry Football League for the Superior Buicks and was named a Small Fry All-Star in both 1952 and 1953. He played basketball in grade school as well, also being chosen as an All-Star player.

Throughout his high school years at Elmira Free Academy (Ernie Davis Middle School was named after Davis in 1964), Davis’ talents on the football field became clear. He was named Elmira Player of the Year and high school All-American in both his junior and senior years. He also showed great athletic prowess in varsity basketball and baseball, all while excelling academically. At a time when many universities were not offering scholarships to black athletes, colleges from around the country watched Davis’ high school career closely, and over 50 offered him scholarships (including Notre Dame and UCLA).
</lj-cut>
Now, for those of you who have been paying any attention to anything I post knows that I live close to Elmira, so I grew up hearing about Ernie Davis. I didn’t realize that they were making the movie, but I’m glad that they did. I am considering seeing it when it hits the theatre in October, but I may wait for the DVD instead since it’s not the kind of movie Rob would like.

I was going to go to the first S-VE home game tonight, but the weather was absolutely craptacular. It had rained all day and was still pretty nasty looking. They put in new bleachers, so I can almost guarantee it was muddy as all get out unless they concreted or something, which I doubt. Maybe next Friday I’ll go to the game at Candor.

Anyway, that’s my update for the night, more tomorrow or sometime this weekend.

Thanks to Angel for pointing out that there was a date change for Twilight. I hadn’t seen *this* headline! This makes me so much happier. I will be able to see Twilight sooner than I thought. I want to reread the book before hand though. I also need to read the newest one as soon as I get it. That softens the blow of Harry Potter being moved, sort of. I think, even more strongly now, that the change for the HP release is because of the change for Twilight. Why would WB release the change 2 days after the change of Twilight was announced? There has to be a reason…

I was planning on seeing it, then Twilight the following month. There is NO reason for them to have done it. Oh wait, they have no big summer movies year, so they think that Harry will be it. Well screw you, Warner Bros. You just made a lot of enemies! I would love to see people protest opening weekend next July, seriously. I know I’d like to. I may wait until it’s near the end of it’s run to see it.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Wal-Mart Stores Inc., already the nation’s top seller of DVDs, said Tuesday that it has become the first major retailer to offer a digital download service that will feature movies from all the major studios.

The product, in beta, allows consumers to choose from more than 3,000 movie and television titles and download them to personal computers usually at a cost less than that of iTunes, the Apple Inc. online store that began selling video downloads more than a year ago.
