Spring Cleaning & Pay Day

Jul-5-2008 By tyralyn

So Monday, I wiped the computer and reformatted it, hoping that would fix the problem that I was having with distortion. No dice, so I tried to stay off it as much as possible since it was worse than ever and hard to see web pages even. That meant it was SPRING CLEANING DAY! Yeah, I’m only a season late. ;)

We started out by pulling out empty boxes from the other bedroom that is used as a storage room. That helped a LOT to get the room cleaned out enough to move around in there. We broke down and got rid of a bunch of them, keeping just a few to put stuff in while we sorted other boxes. In the end, we had a ton of stuff out for recycling, a whole trunk load of garbage off to the dump and a back seat full of stuff off to Salvation Army.

When Rob came home, he had a monitor cable that we borrowed from a friend who runs a computer shop. I switched out the cables and it was still distorted, so we knew for sure the monitor was gone. I’m still pretty pissed off by that fact since it’s only 2 months old. If anyone ever buys a refurbished computer/monitor from Dell, make sure to get extra coverage. If you don’t, you only get 21 days and a limited warranty after that. The limited warranty is utter crap, for the record, on a monitor.

So that pretty much covers how Wednesday went and now we can move on to Thursday. Thanks to the holiday, Rob got paid early, so we headed out fairly early and got his check, ran a couple errands around town, including hot dogs from the new hot dog stand in Sayre. Yum. Chili Cheese Dogs are so good, but so bad for me. We then headed off to Falcon Computers (friends shop) to see what kind of deal could be made. He had a 15″ LCD in the shop, but when he hooked it up to make sure it worked, it was dead. Instead, I came out with a loaner CRT until I decide what I want to do. It works, so that makes me happy. I can see things again.

As for what I’m gonna do, I’ve decided that I’m gonna buy this CRT from him and just squirrel away the money to buy a different Monitor later on. I need to figure out if there is something near/on my desk that could have caused the monitor to go so quickly. I know that the small desk fan that I have causes a bit of oddness with the CRT. That leads me to wonder if having Rob’s alarm clock close to the monitor is an issue. Why spend $200 on an LCD to have it go bad after 2 months because of something I’m doing. That’s a far too expensive experiment.

With that said, that covers 2 more days of the week that need to be caught up. One more post shall catch me up to today. Yay!

Showing Off

Jan-12-2008 By tyralyn

This, my friends, is the completed blanket. I finished it just after midnight last night. This is the first afghan that I’ve made and first large project that I’ve finished. I’m psyched about that. I usually get frustrated and bored, then toss stuff aside. So I’m really proud of myself for getting this done. I just need to get it packed up and mailed off to the mother-to-be. That means I need to get her address. *whistles*

This is the first hat that I made. I had a bunch of leftover burgundy yarn from an afghan my mother made for me, so I figured I would work up a hat for Rob with it. I made him model for me tonight so that I could post pictures. No, he didn’t want to. Oh well. He didn’t get much of a choice. :P I told him to put it on so I could take pictures, can you tell he wasn’t enthused?

My next project is going to be my first afghan for donation. I’ve started the centers of the squares the other night, but I put it aside in hopes of finishing the baby blanket first. Tonight, however, I’ve spent the night trying to find a pattern that we KNOW we have somewhere around here. It’s for the afghan that my mother made for me a couple years ago. We can’t find the book and the pattern is not online as far as I can tell. Hell, the one that I’m working on (pictured left) isn’t even available online. That picture was from an ebay auction of the pattern (linked on the image). Someone clipped the pattern from an old (1985) Annie’s Pattern Club book. I have the actual complete book. It’s been well loved. (aka beaten up and abused) My mother has made several of them and they look really cool when they’re all done and sewn together. She’s done so many color variations that it’s not even funny. I will be getting to work on the centers tomorrow or so, tho. I have 45 more to make. Then I can figure out what other colors I’m going to use.

I also have a pink afghan to work on too for a princess and one for a nephew too. Egad, I’m turning into a crochet whore! <<.<< I need a better crochet icon.
