The homecoming game was fun. It was wet, loud and obnoxious, just the way I like it. Well, except for the wet part. We lost 26-12 and were being scouted by the team we play next week. I had fun, despite the rain. We left with 3 minutes left, but it was pointless to stay and get wetter. I am sad, however, that the field was vandalized last night. Not badly, but it was pretty sad to hear that the night before Homecoming, someone decided to break in and do donuts. I hope they catch whomever it was.

Tomorrow I have an event to cover that looks like a LOT of fun. It’s called Drumbeats Through Time. I’m looking the most forward to the dancing.

Tomorrow night, I was going to be going out, but I’ve decided to save the money we would have spent and do dinner or something. I’m already feeling like I’m overdoing it a bit, so I think that would really overdo it.

As for now, I’m gonna go play in Animation Shop and see what I can come up with.

I’m still alive. Twitter has been posting for me again. Sorry for that, but it’s been a busy and interesting week in a few senses. Monday I had an eye appointment and was told that I didn’t really need it. My glasses haven’t changed enough to make it a big deal. I only even went because my Mom had one right afterward and if I didn’t go, she wouldn’t have gone.

I spent last weekend sitting on a decision that I finally made on Monday. I had to weigh a lot of pros and cons before making the decision, especially since it impacts more than just me. I was approached with the chance to write for the local paper. Mostly human interest stories, which is fine by me because it’s by my schedule to do interviews. The catch to this is – they are a startup paper, so there isn’t a lot of cash flow. This means that I won’t be getting paid. I had to decide if I was truly okay with this and honestly, I am.

I have completed my first article and submitted it. We’ll see how well received it is. Unfortunately, it will not be published online, as they do not have a website currently. I may publish them myself after the print copy comes out, but I want to speak with her first to make sure it’s alright. Next week is gonna be a bit busy as well, since I have a few things going on. So likely, Twitter will be posting for me all week again, but you never know.

Sept 5th starts HS Football season! I am excited by this, but I’m also thinking I won’t get to many games, since he’s working shitty shifts lately. We’ll see, I guess. Knowing my luck, we’d only be able to go to the away games and half the schools I have no idea how to get to. If I had a Garmin GPS, that’d be alright, but we don’t. I told him that he has to have the night off for one game in particular, since it’ll be the ‘major’ game of the season, in a sense. It’s the last home game, plus it’s rivalry game that I *always* went to when I was in school. I want to go to all the home games, but it’s too damn hard to get every Friday evening or Saturday afternoon off for the closer away games.

I should go to bed, I guess. I’m tired and a bit grumpy.

Today was the worse of it. Meltdown city for both Mom and me. It’s just not getting any better either. The only good point was that I got to get out of the house for a while tonight. I went to the Spring Concert for my alma mater. I quite enjoyed myself. I am not pleased with the new chorus director. He chose music that I didn’t find appropriate for a public school. I don’t mind the style of music that chose, as it’s something that I’ve listened to, but it definitely wasn’t what I’d expected.

The Senior Band and Jazz Ensemble, along with the different quartets were fabulous. I think the band program has done nothing but thrive since the district hired Dan Miller. It is definitely odd not to see the band and chorus directors that I knew and loved up there, but time does go on and people retire. Thankfully, they found someone with the same kind of passion and joy for music to fill the band directors shoes. He’s picked some amazing pieces that truly showcase a lot of talented performers. I have to say that my favorite piece had to be Solas Ane (Yesterday’s Joy). It’s a beautiful Gaelic piece. (See Youtube video below)

It was definitely needed for me to get out for a while. I think another day in this house would have been my downfall, honestly. Especially since my monitor took a crap sometime after I turned it off last night and before I tried to turn it on this morning. So, now I’m using the laptop and virtual desktop to be able to do anything. It’s kind of annoying, but at least it’s fast enough that there isn’t a ton of lag and it’s not using a ton of ram and cpu on the laptop. I need to get more RAM in the sucker so that I can use it properly since it’s at bare minimum for Vista Home Basic. :/

Anyway, it’s raining, I’m tired and a bit cranky, so I shall go to sleep. Hopefully tomorrow will be filled with good news.

I can’t even tell you how incredibly proud of my alma mater I am. I really had very little faith in the team, since they were going up against one of the toughest schools in past years. I knew they were in the finals, since they won their qualifier round last month. Rob asked for a late shift specifically so we could go watch, rather than listen from home. I’m incredibly glad we went. It’s the second time we’ve been to a match, but the first time I’ve stayed for the whole thing. The first time I took Rob, S-VE wasn’t playing, so we didn’t stay past the first match.

It’s funny, 15 years ago, I was part of the team that got beat, quite badly. We lost out during our first match, which really shocked me, since we had quite a bright team. Or at least, it was supposed to be. We just did not do well at all. I think that it ended up being a case of not spending enough time together as a team. If I remember right, we only practiced twice. But, I digress. Saturday was fantastic. We went in early enough that they were running student vs local celebrity practice rounds and I got to have a nice conversation with the advisor for S-VE. He is one of the guidance counselors and someone that I absolutely respected beyond just about anyone. He was a lot of help and is the reason I even went to college. He encouraged me when no one else did. It was quite nice. Ironically, I found him on Facebook the other day and sent a friend request. He friended me tonight.

Sunday was pleasant too, since Rob was off work completely. I had found that there was an event going on at the middle school to showcase local businesses, plus the school jazz band was going to perform as well. I decided that, since there was nothing else going on, we would go to it. I went specifically for the jazz band. We looked around the different booths, but it wasn’t really anything overly exciting. I did see my favorite Social Studies teacher from 7th grade. That was rather interesting. He and his wife have been retired for 13 years now. I’ve learned that a lot of the teachers that started right as I was graduating are gone already, moved on or were pushed out.

Today was nice as well. Rob was off again, so we took care of a couple errands. I just wish all the rain would stop. It’s starting to flood the river. It wasn’t bad today, but if the rain keeps going, it will be really quite bad. Rob has to work the rest of the week. Crappy shifts at that. 10-6 tomorrow, then 3-10 Wednesday. Then back to 11-5 and 4am-1pm. Wtf? Crazy. It’s not bad, though. I can get a lot of things done.

I needed a great weekend, since last week was utter CRAP for me. Now, however, I’m going to go watch this morning’s View episode, write up some thoughts on the new Dancing With The Stars season, then go to bed.

My Scroll

Sorry guys, it’s been a bit of a weird week, so the updates that I planned, went –> that way. So we’ll do a week in review!

Monday – I was not happy, it was just an overall bad day for multiple reasons, including round 3 of cramps from hell. <lj-cut text="Girly TMI">For some reason, my body seems to be VERY upset with me and has ‘blessed me’ with 3 full-fledged periods in one month. Wtf? And the cramps have been utterly UNBEARABLE every time too. It needs to freaking stop. Now.</lj-cut>

Tuesday – I went to the doctor. I told her about the above TMI, the lactose intolerance, etc, and she wants to do a full blood panel to see what’s going on, especially since I’ve only lost 2lbs in 6 months. I’ve been averaging 4lbs per month. She thinks that she needs to adjust my medications. No problem, I fasted because I knew it was about time for a blood panel. Also, they were completely unable to get a blood pressure reading with their stupid digital machine. And? My temperature was low when she took it. So the nurse came to draw blood. FAIL. She hit the vein dead on, however, I wouldn’t bleed. Not a drop. She removed the needle and I bled like a mofo. I gave her a second attempt. FAIL. Again, bled after the needle removal. Result? I return Tuesday for a draw. Not amused, but they damn well better be able to get blood or they can stuff it. After that, we went to get some of our groceries. I really didn’t feel all that great, so we grabbed a pizza to bring home for dinner. Best pizza I’ve had in a LONG time. Seriously, the only thing better is my home made pizza. Tuesday was one long day, overall, since I barely sleep at night.

Wednesday & Thursday were uneventful. Rob worked, I slept, fucked off on the computer, watched TV and slept. *shrug* I’m a slug when I don’t feel well.

Friday, we finished grocery shopping, even tho I still felt like warmed over ass. Hell I still feel like warmed over ass right now. I should not be allowed in Wegmans. I always want to spend more than I should. I have never gone in there and gotten just what I went in for. I always come out with something extra. By the time it was all said and done, it was almost 6 when we got home. Crazy. We brought home KFC, which was a BIG mistake. It was absolutely horrid and I’ve been having stomach issues ever since.

Today.. was made of FAIL in so many ways. The high point? My alma mater won their qualifier for Scholarship Challenge (local quiz competition for HS Seniors that I participated in when I was in school) finals. I don’t feel well still. There’s too much going on, none fit for posting though, so I’m out for now. Post again sometime, when I feel better.

My Scroll

There will be much squee-age! Tonight is another football night. I know it seems odd that I’ve been going to a lot of football games, but really it’s not. I used to go every chance I got when I was still in school. When I graduated, however, I walked away from that school and really didn’t want to look back. I hated the place my senior year. There was so much nonsense and drama that I just could not wait to get the hell out of there.

Now it’s been 15 years, I finally let go of all the hatred and realized that it wasn’t really the school that I hated, it was the circumstances and the people. I let go of it all last year and started getting more involved. It feels good to get involved, it feels good to go to events again. It’s amazing how easy it is to slip back into the pattern of going to football games on Friday nights, or to the concerts or even just read the Friday newsletter.

Sure, we’ll write an update today! Okay, what have I been up to? Doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, running errands, and that’s about it. Oh wait, working and trying to study tax stuff. The last of which has gone by the wayside. I missed the first exam because I wasn’t done with the reading or assessments. I’m really okay with that, though. I’ll just try again when I can put the time into it and do it right.

Tonight, I want to go to the HS football game. Hopefully, Rob will get off on time so we can go. Even if he’s a little late, we should be able to go. It’s supposed to be a good game. It’s an away game, but we’re not that far from the school we’re playing against. Next Friday I plan on going to the game as well. There was never a question about that one since it’s the homecoming game, and last home game on the schedule.

I’ve been baking up a storm lately, and have plans on continuing the trend. I’ve got the stuff to make Pumpkin cheesecake, a Root beer Float Cake and several other yummy things. The Applesauce cookies are going over quite well, which makes me quite happy. I’m getting better at baking. I just need to try to make fudge soon to see if I can manage to make it. So yeah.

I managed to twist my ankle Saturday while shopping. Go figure. This is what happens when I get in a hurry. It’s better than it was, in fact it doesn’t even really hurt today. Hopefully, going out tonight won’t bother it. It shouldn’t.

Anyway, I’m off to shower and chill for the day. Have a great Friday.

I’m not up to posting a whole lot tonight, so I will say that today was fabulous. Seriously. We went to cash his check and came home after a brief stop at the bread store and taco bell. Came home and caught up on email, lj and plurk.

Headed off to get pizza for dinner, then wen to the football game. Yes, that’s high school football. It was misty, but that’s alright, it wasn’t bad. It wasn’t even horribly cold. We lost by 2 points, but it was one helluva game.

Anyway, that’s all for now, I’m tired, I need sleep and have plans tomorrow. Eventually I’ll give you a better post.

So, The Express premiered in Syracuse tonight. I can only imagine the hoopla surrounding that. The only reason that this interests me is because it’s the story of Ernie Davis.
<lj-cut text="Info stolen from Wikipedia Re: Ernie Davis">
Ernie Davis (December 14, 1939 – May 18, 1963) was an American Football player who became the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Wearing number 44, Davis competed collegiately for Syracuse University before being drafted by the Washington Redskins then almost immediately traded to the Cleveland Browns in December 1961. However, the running back would never play a professional game after developing leukemia in 1962.

Born and raised near Pittsburgh, Ernie was born into the poverty of the coal-belt. His parents separated shortly before his father died in an accident. Raised in the nearby Pittsburgh industrial center of Uniontown by his grandparents, Davis moved to Elmira, New York at age 12 with his mother and new stepfather. He played in Elmira’s Small Fry Football League for the Superior Buicks and was named a Small Fry All-Star in both 1952 and 1953. He played basketball in grade school as well, also being chosen as an All-Star player.

Throughout his high school years at Elmira Free Academy (Ernie Davis Middle School was named after Davis in 1964), Davis’ talents on the football field became clear. He was named Elmira Player of the Year and high school All-American in both his junior and senior years. He also showed great athletic prowess in varsity basketball and baseball, all while excelling academically. At a time when many universities were not offering scholarships to black athletes, colleges from around the country watched Davis’ high school career closely, and over 50 offered him scholarships (including Notre Dame and UCLA).
</lj-cut>
Now, for those of you who have been paying any attention to anything I post knows that I live close to Elmira, so I grew up hearing about Ernie Davis. I didn’t realize that they were making the movie, but I’m glad that they did. I am considering seeing it when it hits the theatre in October, but I may wait for the DVD instead since it’s not the kind of movie Rob would like.

I was going to go to the first S-VE home game tonight, but the weather was absolutely craptacular. It had rained all day and was still pretty nasty looking. They put in new bleachers, so I can almost guarantee it was muddy as all get out unless they concreted or something, which I doubt. Maybe next Friday I’ll go to the game at Candor.

Anyway, that’s my update for the night, more tomorrow or sometime this weekend.
