Slackin’ Again

I’ve been slacking again in updates. My bad. So lets play a game of catch up. First and foremost, I’ve been hugely sucked in by Sims 3. Much to my chagrin. I’ve always been vocal against the Sims and I got sucked in hardcore. I’ve also been hugely sucked in by Farm Town and other various farming game apps on Facebook. I really only use FB for those apps. It’s kind of funny, everyone else uses it for socializing, I like it for the games.

I still haven’t put together my thoughts on Harry Potter. I enjoyed the movie for the movie itself, but I didn’t care for a lot of things that were missing or changed. I addressed this on plurk, so I’ll copy it over here…

1) Bill/Fleur – the engagement is kind of important, because of the wedding in DH being where Harry, Ron and Hermione left from. Bill/Fleur also set up the scenes of the shell cottage as well, along with the attack on Bill by Grayback during the final fight that did not happen.
2) Horcruxes – Sure, Harry knows now what they are, knows that Dumbledore destroyed 2, but he doesn’t really know enough to strike out to find the others. He doesn’t see enough of the memories to be able to figure out the 4, especially since Ginny hid the book in the ROR, when it’s key to Harry knowing where the Diadem was at – He saw it when he hid his book.
3) Burning the Burrow – Where the HELL are the Weasley’s going to live? Much better, where is the wedding going to be? It was at the Burrow!
4) Where are the Dursleys? The scene with Dumbledore telling them that Harry needed to return one more time is also a key point they missed.
5) The fight scene – I understand that you have to cut a lot to make a movie, but why not cut the fire and put in the fight? It was pretty lame, imo. You have all the Death Eaters in the castle for what? Nothing, really. There was no fight, they just stood and watched
6) Dumbledore’s non-existent funeral – Uh, are they going to make that part of the first DH movie? Cuz burying the wand is a fairly key item, since it’s one of the Hallows and all.

Those are the major points that annoyed me. I mean, I did enjoy the movie, I laughed and even cried when Dumbledore died. That scene was probably the best scene in the movie, but I was left wanting more. I read on a board something that really struck me – It seems like they were trying to turn it into a Twilight-esque film.

So, they recently opened a Sonic in Binghamton. You have no idea how damn happy that made me. Honestly, I nearly cried from happiness. Sonic is one of the things that I’ve missed the most about living in Las Vegas. I had just said a little while ago that hell would probably freeze before we got one, so I had to eat my words. And rumor has it, they’re going to be building at least one more in the same area.

I had a Dr. Appointment on the 24th. It was pretty uneventful, other than I got yelled at because my blood sugar levels are bottoming out because I forget to eat or wait too long to eat. I also got in trouble for fasting for blood work without being told to. I always fast for morning appointments. So, after that was done, we had the rest of the day. I grabbed a muffin for breakfast, then we planned to go to a Farmer’s Market. We had never been to this particular one before, so we headed out right after my appointment, under the impression that it was open early, but no, it didn’t open until 2pm and we were there at 11am. So, we had to figure out something to do to waste time. We decided to drive around a bit and see if we could manage to not get lost and see if we could find where Sonic was at. Come to find out, it was a half a block from one of the stores we shop at. That’s absolutely awesome! The lines were INSANE. But I got my Sonic and I’m very happy about that.

I found out last week that RENT is in Ithaca this month. It’s NOT the broadway cast, it’s a touring group, but it sounds like a great show. I want to go, but the ticket prices are insane. So I was looking at the theater website and found the COOLEST thing ever. They have one showing of every show that is “Pay what you can” pricing. What?? I read more, found their twitter and it really is pay what you can. I can go see RENT for almost nothing?? Seriously?? Yeah, I desperately want to do that. The show time is August 12th at 7:30. Small problem, we need to be there early to get tickets. They recommend being there by 6:30 when the ticket window opens. Rob works until 5, gets home at 5:30, changes and we fly, we’ll barely make it at 6:30 and he NEVER gets out of work on time. Ever. I’m not sure if we’ll be going, but I’m sure going to try.

This Wednesday night is another night of learning about the history of my hometown. I know, it doesn’t sound interesting, but it is. Tomorrow night is going to be more about the railroads and it really excites me. It’s supposed to rain, but we’re under a gazebo and as long as it isn’t a monsoon, it shouldn’t be cancelled. I always look forward to these nights, which seems odd since I hate history with a burning, fiery passion.

We’ve been planning on picking blueberries, but the weather is against us. We’ve decided that we’re just not gonna go this year. It’s rained pretty much every other day for the last month. It’s made the fields all muddy, so I really don’t want to go try to pick in that kind of environment. One of Rob’s regular customers went to the same place we do and said it was hellishly muddy, so I’m glad we’ve decided not to go. I’ll just go to the Farmer’s Market and pick up a couple quarts or something.

I have to go get groceries Tuesday. We made our list yesterday and most of it is from Sam’s Club. Rob has an eye appointment at 11, then we’re going to go shopping. I dread it, in a lot of ways, since it’s still summer vacation, but it shouldn’t be so bad. It shouldn’t be too bad, as long as it isn’t boiling hot outside.

I think that’s all there is for now. I’m not going to promise to update again soon. I’ll post when I remember.

Another Reason Facebook Sucks..

Facebook pulled some absolutely crazy stunts in changing their TOS to say that they own your data even if you cancel your account. What? I don’t think so. I close my account, my stuff is still mine. Yeah, that means your personal photos are theirs to use.

No, really. Just NO. They did change the TOS back after the users created a giant uproar. BUT. I still do NOT trust them. Period. I know a lot of you use facebook for hosting your pictures.

Please heed this warning. Host elsewhere. Use Flickr or Picasa. It’s just as easy.

My Update Gone Amiss

Sorry guys, it’s been a bit of a weird week, so the updates that I planned, went –> that way. So we’ll do a week in review!

Monday – I was not happy, it was just an overall bad day for multiple reasons, including round 3 of cramps from hell. For some reason, my body seems to be VERY upset with me and has ‘blessed me’ with 3 full-fledged periods in one month. Wtf? And the cramps have been utterly UNBEARABLE every time too. It needs to freaking stop. Now.

Tuesday – I went to the doctor. I told her about the above TMI, the lactose intolerance, etc, and she wants to do a full blood panel to see what’s going on, especially since I’ve only lost 2lbs in 6 months. I’ve been averaging 4lbs per month. She thinks that she needs to adjust my medications. No problem, I fasted because I knew it was about time for a blood panel. Also, they were completely unable to get a blood pressure reading with their stupid digital machine. And? My temperature was low when she took it. So the nurse came to draw blood. FAIL. She hit the vein dead on, however, I wouldn’t bleed. Not a drop. She removed the needle and I bled like a mofo. I gave her a second attempt. FAIL. Again, bled after the needle removal. Result? I return Tuesday for a draw. Not amused, but they damn well better be able to get blood or they can stuff it. After that, we went to get some of our groceries. I really didn’t feel all that great, so we grabbed a pizza to bring home for dinner. Best pizza I’ve had in a LONG time. Seriously, the only thing better is my home made pizza. Tuesday was one long day, overall, since I barely sleep at night.

Wednesday & Thursday were uneventful. Rob worked, I slept, fucked off on the computer, watched TV and slept. *shrug* I’m a slug when I don’t feel well.

Friday, we finished grocery shopping, even tho I still felt like warmed over ass. Hell I still feel like warmed over ass right now. I should not be allowed in Wegmans. I always want to spend more than I should. I have never gone in there and gotten just what I went in for. I always come out with something extra. By the time it was all said and done, it was almost 6 when we got home. Crazy. We brought home KFC, which was a BIG mistake. It was absolutely horrid and I’ve been having stomach issues ever since.

Today.. was made of FAIL in so many ways. The high point? My alma mater won their qualifier for Scholarship Challenge (local quiz competition for HS Seniors that I participated in when I was in school) finals. I don’t feel well still. There’s too much going on, none fit for posting though, so I’m out for now. Post again sometime, when I feel better.

One of the things that I realized yesterday is that I always have 4 tabs open in my browser. Always. Livejournal, Gmail, Plurk and Twitter. I also check Facebook, Myspace and MyYearbook regularly as well. Plus I have some other sites that I don’t check as often. I have each account for a different reason.

Facebook – I keep my Facebook fairly recent because I have connected with some high school and college friends there, plus there are a few of my other friends who are either there exclusively or use it more than other things.

Myspace – Before Facebook, that was the place to connect with those from HS/College/etc.

MyYearbook – I don’t even know how I found it, but I keep it up to date for a single person – an old friend whom I lost touch with years ago. The reconnection with this particular friend is quite important to me, so I check there for messages from him.

Plurk – I love plurk. I had plurk before it was ‘cool’ but didn’t use it much. It’s fun, it’s interactive, and I’ve made a lot of great friends through plurk, plus a met a couple people that remind me why I keep to myself (more on that in another post) a lot.

Twitter – I’ve been on twitter for as long as I’ve known about twitter. I deleted my original Twitter account but recreated a short time later. I like twitter because it works with my cell phone, unlike livejournal, plurk and most other services. I can send short updates via text when I’m out and it makes a great way to make a bullet list post to livejournal or other sites via loudtwitter for things to expound on when there’s time.

That’s not really the point of this post. The point is that it seems like a lot of people spend their time online chasing from site to site to keep up with the people they care about. I know that’s how I feel. This isn’t new, though, it’s been going on since there were ways for people to communicate other than via e-mail. If you think about it, there is IRC with hundreds of servers, each with hundreds and up to thousands of channels for people to chat in. There is Yahoo chat, AOL chat, other web-based chats and various different messenger services. My personal preference for Instant Messaging is MSN/Windows Live Messenger. Others prefer AIM or Yahoo and that’s fine. I have all of them, it’s not a big deal, really.

I feel, a lot of times, that I’m spreading myself too thin and wonder how many others feel the same way but don’t know what to do about it. It’s hard to say no when you really want to be where your friends are, but it’s also hard to juggle so much stuff and not drop the ball sometimes. Recently, a good friend said that they spend more time on Facebook because it’s more accessible from their cell phone. I don’t really understand that, tbqh, because any cell phone with a web browser can access most any site quite easily. Most major sites have mobile versions of their sites for just that reason. Heck, there are even apps for the iPhone for livejournal. But anyway, that’s just my thoughts.

What’s the point of all this? Who knows, perhaps it’s just me making up my mind to stop chasing people from site to site on a daily basis. I know that I’ve been neglecting my livejournal because of it. I don’t like that, since I’ve been on livejournal for so long. Created on 2001-04-29. There are no visible entries prior to 1/1/08, however, but I’ve been here and been posting all that time. 2806 Days ago, I joined livejournal. I have posted 4241 Entries. Average of 1.5 entries per day. Last time I did an average, the average was 2.5 entries per day, which means that in the last year, I’ve posted far less than I used to.

I could blame plurk, twitter, etc, for my lack of posting. This is only half of the reason, though. The rest is all me. I do hope to change that, however. We’ll see.

So a few weeks ago, I got this wild hare brain idea to teach myself to knit. I went and got a set of standard needles, got a book (Knitting for Dummies) and sat down and gave it a shot. Much to my chagrin, I failed miserably. I tried and tried and just couldn’t grasp it, not even the basics. I grasped crochet super easily, so I figured I’d be able to grasp knit just as easily.

I got frustrated and put it aside and said the hell with it. Tonight, I grabbed my skein of yarn, figuring I’d give it one more shot. Lo and behold, I actually figured out what the hell I was doing! I managed to cast on and knit the first row. At that point, I decided not to try to push my luck and put it away for the night. I think I finally grasped the basics of knitting.

I won’t be making any big projects any time soon, but I will work at it more. For now, it’s eggs and dragons.
