Okay, so I haven’t written any sort of Reality show update in a while. So here we go!
What am I watching? Biggest Loser, Project Runway, Celebrity Rehab, The Apprentice: Celebrity Edition, Gone Country and Big Brother.
Biggest Loser is interesting this season, since they’re playing in teams, but are now down far enough that they’re breaking up the teams. They’ve had more of a competitive air about the season. I don’t care for that, since it’s supposed to be more about the weight loss and less about the game. It’s not been as good as it has in the past, but at least they’re getting healthy in the process.
Project Runway is down to the final 4. Yeah, I said 4. Usually it gets down to three, then go home to design their collection for Bryant Park. However, this season they sent home 4 people and one will be eliminated prior to Bryant Park. I wasn’t surprised by most of the 4, they worked hard and did well. I am, however, surprised that Chris March is still there after having been eliminated earlier in the season. He returned after an HIV positive contestant had to leave the show the week after March’s elimination. It’s been a season of interesting challenges and some really wild designs, including a new ‘costume’ for a set of WWE Divas. I definitely can’t wait to see what the final collections will be, since there’s a wide array of personalities left.
Celebrity Rehab is interesting, to say the least. It’s full of drama and really hard to watch at times. It’s not so much of a reality show as a VH1 Documentary, but it has the same impact. Dr Drew Pinsky has stars like former American Idol contestant Jessica Sierra and Grease and Taxi star Jeff Conaway in a rehab center in California for detox and learning how to live clean and sober. Daniel Baldwin was one of the first who entered the rehab, but has since left, stating that it was no longer an “environment conducive to his sobriety.” The fact came out, after his departure, that he was text messaging one of the other patients asking her for nude photos. Conaway has been a whole different story altogether. He has been nothing but drama, having come in with drugs on him, coming in high and drunk to the point he had to be rushed to a hospital. He’s partially wheelchair bound and uses the pain he’s in as an excuse for his behavior. It’s definitely been interesting to watch what new excuses the celebrities can come up with.
The Apprentice: Celebrity Edition has been yet another show filled with melodrama and mayhem. The cast, which I’ve written about previously So far, they have lost Nadia Comaneci, Tiffany Fallon, Jennie Finch, Nely Galan, Gene Simmons due to task losses. Vincent Pastore has also left the show, due to an inability to get along with fellow contestant Piers Morgan. He’s been quite the dramatic, causing tension with, not only Pastore, but also with Omarosa and Stephen Baldwin. Baldwin was to the point of wanting to leave the show, but was given the option of changing teams and chose that instead. The surprise of the season, to me, has been Trace Adkins. He has been very low-key and always comes up with ideas when he’s needed the most. For a hillbilly, he has more of a head on his shoulders than a lot of businessmen do. Lennox Lewis has also been a surprise. You would expect the fighters to be rough and gruff, but Lennox is a very gentle soul, a peacemaker and has been trying to keep the peace with his team. Tito, as well, is not as rough and gruff as one would expect. I wasn’t expecting much out of the celebrities, since most of them have a charmed life, but they’ve surprised me, pleasantly and I’m definitely looking foward to seeing where this season ends up.
