Random Thoughts: Working At Home

Jan-11-2008 By tyralyn

One of the things that I really love about working at home is being my own boss. It’s hard sometimes, keeping myself motivated and on task. It’s easy to get distracted by other things, like chatting and reading web sites. It’s also easy to get distracted by doing things around the house.

One of the major things, however, that I love about working for myself is the fact that I don’t have to worry about poor performance reviews. That was the one thing that I always hated when I was working in data entry. Everyone has off days, but judging whether someone should keep their job based on one day? Screw that.

The last data entry job I held, I was not offered a contract extension because my error rate was too high. I asked what data they were using and they had used the previous day, where I was given batches that were completely screwed up. None of it was my fault, it was the fault of whomever batched them. But whatever.

Working at home, I have no one to be accountable to but me, myself and I.

As you get older, you start to think about different things, especially about your future and how expensive it can be if you pass away unexpectedly. Or at least that’s the way my mind works as I get older. I’m only 32, but I am not in the best physical health. Overweight, Thyroid disease and border-line diabetic isn’t exactly a good position to be in. I know this and am doing something about it, but it still makes me think that I need to do to make sure that my family doesn’t get stuck paying for me if I pass away. Not everyone has a job that offers an employee benefit package, especially if they work from home or freelance.

So in light of that, I started looking at different insurance quotes online, hoping to find something that would fit within our budget. It’s hard to find a decent online insurance policy in a price that is easily affordable by everyone. Being poor sucks on so many levels, but there are places that will help you , thankfully.

I just hope that we can afford to find a term life plan that we can afford soon, before something bad happens. Especially with the health problems that have come to light recently with my husband. It’s been a wake-up call for sure and has definitely made it apparent that something may be sacrificed in order to get some insurance. Which means it’s time to look at insurance plans pros and cons to see if I can find something that won’t break our budget totally.
