Cooking, Baking, Life

Jul-30-2008 By tyralyn

Funny enough, it’s the middle of summer and I’ve been cooking and baking a lot. Usually it’s too hot to bother with cooking, much less baking. We actually had a few cool days, so it wasn’t bad. Saturday I made my second loaf of Italian bread, a batch of blueberry muffins and dinner. Sunday, after boiling in the sun while picking blueberries, I came home and made BBQ Bacon Cheeseburgers and fresh sweet corn. Heck, last night I made bacon, eggs and toast for dinner after having made grits for lunch.

I’ve cooked more this summer than I usually do in the summer. It’s absolutely crazy. I suppose, though, I need to go get dressed and ready to head out to Rob’s doctor’s appointment. I still don’t wanna go. Blah. Guess I ain’t got much of a choice.

So, catch up Sunday ended up not panning out totally since we left for quite a while, that means I have more catching up to do. I would have posted more yesterday or today but I’ve just not been in a very good mood. I’m still not in a very good mood, but the reason is not for me to talk about. Long story short, Rob has extra days off this week and it’s not paid, nor is it by choice.

What this means? I probably won’t get my catch up posts done until Saturday when he goes back to work. Tomorrow he has a doctor’s appointment. Joy of joys. I don’t really want to want to deal with more medical appointments. I need to make an appointment for myself soon. Bah. I don’t really want to go back to see her, I really don’t. Oh well, what can I do?

I should be asleep, I just really don’t want to, plus I’m watching Big Brother After Dark on Sho 2. I never fall asleep until it’s over anyway, so I might as well stay up a bit longer and write a post before sleeping. I need to update the list of stuff I need to post about too. Too much going on, not enough hours in the day it feels like sometimes.

Garden Lust

Jul-28-2008 By tyralyn

I have a major case of garden lust. Seriously. Why? The last couple years I’ve grown cucumbers, tomatoes and squash and not really had a whole ton of luck, even tho I’ve been gardening for years. My tomatoes that I started from seed all died because of a late frost. So I’ve got no garden at all this year. I’ve seen other people’s lush, beautiful gardens around here and it makes me really sad. I don’t like that the only thing I’ve planted are my lilac bushes and rose bushes.

They seem to be doing well, though, so I can’t complain too much.. other than that they need the grass cut around them again. Stupid rain has made it hard to keep up with the yard this summer. I just hope that when he mows, he doesn’t mow ‘em down on accident. so yes, this year I have garden lust and I’m extremely jealous of those of you with good gardens :P

Music In The Park

Jul-28-2008 By tyralyn

Friday night, Rob and I got to go check out a new band. They are called The Cheyenne Band. They’re really a lot better than I expected, to be honest. They play a lot of older and some newer country and were really good. People were really enjoying themselves.

I got to say hi to a friend I hadn’t seen in quite a while, and had a nice conversation with a couple that lived in the trailer park, two places away from us. I hadn’t really talked to them since we moved, really, so it was nice talking to them at length. Overall, it was a really nice night. We had a nice time. Too bad this is probably the only week we can go. Maybe I’ll scope out other events for this week, depending on what happens tomorrow and we can do that.

For now, I’m done. I have more on my to post about list, those will come tomorrow or sometime this week. Hope everyone had a good weekend and has a good week.

Blueberry Picking

Jul-27-2008 By tyralyn

So, one of the things that I had on my list of things to do on Rob’s day off was go pick blueberries after his doctor’s appointment on Wednesday. I have never done it before, and thought it would be fun to do. Well, today Rob came home early and I had to send him to the store for stuff to finish dinner. We sat there talking and the decision was made that we’d go pick blueberries.

I really have no idea how that decision actually came about, but we got dressed and headed off to pick blueberries. It was fun, relaxing and it was thoroughly enjoyable to play in the field, listening to others who are doing the same thing. We plan on going back to pick more, since we left sooner than I would have liked. I had walked to the car to get my phone and it was ringing. Silly me left it in the car, thinking I wouldn’t need it. Oh well. That wasn’t really a pleasant phone call, so we cut the picking short.

I am going again, we picked just shy of 4lbs of berries and want more to freeze for use all winter. We even gave some to my cousin before we headed home, so we ended up with 3lbs or more when we came home. Anyway. That’s blueberry picking. ;)

Catch Up Sunday Begins!

Jul-27-2008 By tyralyn

Okay, so we’ll start at the top of the list I posted last night or this morning.. whenever it was. ;) Friday was pay day, so we had to go to the bank and do a couple errands. One of those things was to head to the weekly Farmer’s Market in Sayre. I’ve never been, since he usually works on Fridays. I was looking forward to being able to buy fresh local produce. So we went to the bank, went to Salvation Army in hopes of finding Rob a few pair of cheap jeans since he tends to rip them quicker than hell.

We had no luck, so we headed out to get some lunch. We decided on Chinese, which was so good and for once I didn’t end up wishing I hadn’t eaten it. That’s rare since my stomach tends to rebel often with the meds that I take. After lunch, we headed to the Farmer’s Market which was a real bust. There was only 2 vendors with produce, one was organic, the other was just plainly overpriced. The other 5 vendors had crafts, which isn’t bad, but it’s a waste if you’re looking for produce.

I figure that if I want a decent Farmer’s Market, I need to go into one of the cities for one. I think figure that in a city it’s easier to get vendors because of the population not being out in the farming land. But anyway, that’s enough for this post. Got more to write about :P

Bread and Life

Jul-22-2008 By tyralyn

Bread 002 I was ambitious today. Seriously. I made Italian bread (in the bread machine, yes I am a cheater) and it turned out SO good. I’ve failed at simple white bread, I’ve failed at simple wheat bread, but my Italian bread came out almost perfect. It didn’t cave in for a change and it didn’t come out super heavy and yeasty. It’s a bit denser than I like, but it tastes absolutely fantastic. After the bread was out, I got dinner started. Whole roasted chicken with a light coating of olive oil just to get it crisp. To go with it was boxed (yep, cheated again) stuffing and instant (I cheat, sue me!) mashed potatoes with real, made from the chicken drippings, gravy.

I have been asked if I’m alright more times than I can count and I don’t understand why. I know I haven’t been posting much on livejournal lately, but there really isn’t a whole lot to post about. I get up, I do crap around the house, I futz around on the computer, I read, I watch TV, I play games, I go to bed and start all over again most of the time. Thusly, that is why there is usually only one ‘real’ update sometimes. So that’s the deal.

I’ve been monitoring blood sugar levels every few days for myself. My levels are super good, ranging in the 90’s, which is really great, considering they were afraid I was borderline diabetic. Meh. Rob’s levels are still high, but he’s going to the doctor sooner rather than later. Mom’s is a the high end of normal, so we’re not too worried.

I think that covers anything of interest. :P

Not Epic Fail

Jul-17-2008 By tyralyn

Today was not Epic Fail, just a waste of time. Well, this morning was at least. We got a call last night in the middle of a thunderstorm from the dental office I took Rob to before the eye crap started up again, asking us to come in for a consultation because they had finally gotten the information on our insurance. So I tell her we can do it tomorrow (today) and we set the time for 10:30, since it’s about a 45 minute drive and I had to take meds and eat first.

So we get there a few minutes early, sat and watched the Fox News until they called us in. We go back and find out the news. What they want to do is going to cost us $10k. Wtf? I really don’t think so. Especially since they want to break and restructure his jaw. I really think not. So we’re now investigating other possibilities. We’ll see what happens with them.

Err.. the rest of this post will be written later, it’s storming and I’m going off line.

Today: Epic Fail

Jul-17-2008 By tyralyn

I declare today an epic fail. Seriously. The plan was to go to the lake and have a picnic, then go get some fresh fruits and produce. What happened, however, was that we headed out to Ithaca. We stopped at a red light and when it changed, accelerated and all of the sudden the muffler blew out. Yeah, that was really not cool. We pull into the nearest parking lot, check out the damage, find that the pipe came off the catalytic converter. So, we turn around and go straight to our mechanic.

So much for the lake. At least it was an easy fix and it was cheap. We ended up getting some crappy produce that was supposed to be local and wasn’t. It’s crazy. I don’t understand why people have to lie about stuff like that. No wonder people end up with food poisoning from produce. *sigh*

The ONLY part of today that wasn’t EPIC FAIL was getting 3 Grisham novels in the mail that I bought from . I even forgot that Project Runway started tonight.

Tomorrow is shaping up to be another Epic Fail day. We have to go to Vestal in the morning for an appointment at 10:30. Maybe we can find something fun to do afterward. I’m taking my laptop with me so I can check different sites. I should balance my checkbook and see where that stands too. Meh, I’m tired. Goodnight.
